Job Opportunity

Chinatown Museum Foundation (CMF) is seeking a qualified individual to fill the Executive Director position for the Chinese American Museum of Chicago – Raymond B. & Jean T. Lee Center (CAMOC) to oversee the operations, fundraising, and programming of the museum. With a small staff and a dedicated board, the Executive Director manages the operations, fundraising, and programs for the museum. Within his or her first 12 months, the Executive Director will collaborate with the CMF board to develop plans for fiscal sustainability, programs and exhibits, community engagement & representation, and communications.

The ideal candidate must be motivated and entrepreneurial and will raise the profile of the museum within Chicago and across the Chinese American communities in the Midwest, increase revenue and membership, and build on the substantial public interest in Chinese and Chinese American cultures. Management experience and excellent networking and communication skills are required. Familiarity with nonprofit organizations and museum operations is essential. Knowledge of conversational and written Chinese is preferred.

CMF was founded in 2002 to create a museum that reflects the history, experiences, and cultures of the individuals, families, and organizations that shaped Midwestern Chinese American society. The resulting Chinese American Museum of Chicago – Raymond B. & Jean T. Lee Center (CAMOC) opened its doors in 2005, but soon after suffered a devastating fire. Community members rallied around the museum, and within 2 years, the museum reopened its doors. The museum serves 8,000 visitors annually through a series of public programs, exhibitions, community events, and collaborative programs and has an annual budget of $400K. The museum is part of the cultural fabric of Chicago’s Chinatown, participates in many Asian American coalitions and events, and is an active member of the Chicago Cultural Alliance.
